Bid Help

Bid Cards

I want to find out more about a topic on one of the cards (you will need the card number for this) Help!

More Bid Cards ?

"Are there plans to bring out new cards for the game Bid?" Yes, there are plans and we have set up a special mailing list which will be used to announce their arrival.

I have run out of sheets of paper on the score pad, where can I print off some more? Here

Questions about bidding and scoring:

If you bid the same number as someone else's winning bid, what do you score?

You score 0 (it doesn't matter whether you have the right answers or not).

What happens if nobody makes a winning bid?

Then nobody scores any points and play moves around to the next Reader.

What happens when everyone Bids and nobody gets the answers correct ?

This is how the question was raised by a player, the answer follows after the question:

"I purchased the game 'Bid' which I played and thoroughly enjoyed last night with some friends.

One piece of feedback is that the rules could be made clearer. e.g. it states that you continue until a winning bid is found. How this process works is unclear, particularly in the following situation.

Lets say 3 players bid 7,6 and 5 respectively - and all are incorrect when they call out their item numbers. Does each player then re-bid e.g. 5,4,3 respectively or do they have to stick with their original bid (i.e. 7,6 and 5 respecitvely) and guess alternative item numbers. I presume its the former, because you could end up with no-one obtaining a winning bid if the total number of correct answers was 4 and the bids were 5,6 and 7.

Your clarification would be greatly appreciated for myself and other users."

Reply: "If nobody makes a winning bid then the round is void and nobody scores any points. Play moves onto the next Reader and the next card.

We agree that this scenario is not  covered in the rules but understand that the forthcoming next edition of the game will include re-written rules covering the matter."

Players Questions

I have lost my copy of the rules - no problem, here they are:

Getting Ready:
Give each player a sheet of paper from the pad and a pen. Put the cards face down in a pile in the middle of the table.

How to play:
Nominate one player as the first Reader. The Reader takes a card and reads it aloud twice. Each card lists ten numbered items from a category. Some of those items genuinely fall within the category whilst other do not.

Everyone except the Reader secretly writes down which items they believe to be genuine and which they believe to be false.

Starting with the person to the left of the Reader and moving round the group in a clockwise direction, each player in turn (except the Reader) bids a quantity of genuine items that they believe they can correctly identify on the card.

The person who makes the highest bid then says which item numbers they believe to be genuine. (If more than one person shares the highest bid, the person who bid first goes first). It is not necessary to correctly identify all the genuine items listed on the card.

The Reader listens, silently comparing the answers with those shown on the card and not giving any clues as to which items are genuine and which are false.

If the all the answers given are genuine, the Reader declares a "winning bid" and that player scores a point for each correctly identified genuine item.

However if the Reader says that the player's answers are not all genuine then the next highest bidder reads out their answers. This continues until a winning bid is found and the scores are calculated as above.

After any winning bid, all the other players lose their chance to read out their answers and must calculate their score for the round. You do this by working out the difference between your bid and the winning bid and you lose that many points. (For example, if you bid 6 and the winning bid is 8 then you are two away, so your score will be -2).

The person to the left of the Reader becomes the new Reader and a new round begins.

A game can consist of as many rounds as you like, providing that each player is the Reader an equal number of times. The person with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.
