The lakes vary in depth and produce fish from 1lb up into double figures. About 90% of the fish are big tailed rainbows, the rest being the notoriously elusive Amherst Lodge brownies.Amherst Lodge is a Troutmaster Water so there is always a chance that leisure anglers will scoop a prize from landing one of our bigger fish.
For the experienced there are plenty of reed beds and overhangs to investigate as well as shallows suitable for stalking. A dry fly only lake and prolific hatches in season provide challenging and exciting imitative fishing.
For novices and anyone feeling a little "rusty", there are some clear open spaces where casting rhythms can be found without the frustration and hassle of pulling flies out of the trees etc! The fishery manager is usually happy to provide some advice on tackle, flies and tactics.
