Welcome
to Associate!……The “missing links” party game
Important: This page explains how the game
works and the next page is the board for the game. All the other pages are
contain question cards, so no peeking! (That being said, you may need to look
at one other page to help you understand the rules).
What to do now:
Simple ! Print off the file, (or at least one page of
question cards per person playing), take a moment to read this page and then
get ready to have some fun….
Getting Ready:
Divide the group into two teams and give each person one of
the printed sheets of question cards. (Players should not see other people’s
sheets). Lay the board on the table and put two playing pieces on the start
space (you can use playing pieces from any other game, or improvise using two
different coins or other small items).
How to play:
Decide which team will go first and then play
alternately. Every turn lasts for 30 seconds and should be timed by the
opposing team (use a wrist watch or kitchen timer to time this 30 second
period).
Each printed sheet of
question cards has nine cards on it. Each card shows several different
color-coded categories. Notice that the squares on the board have colors that
match those on the card.
When it is your team’s turn, one of your players looks at
their printed sheet and selects the color category that matches the team’s
current position on the board. The player reads out the words shown on the
first card on their sheet and their team must guess the missing word that links
those words. For example, is the player read out “pie” and “beauty” the answer
would be “American” because it links those two words via the phrases “American
Pie” and “American Beauty”.
As soon as your team have correctly guessed the missing
word, the player reads another clue from the same category on a different card.
This continues until the timer runs out. Your team’s piece then moves on as
many spaces as they have correct answers. It is then the other teams turn. Play
continues back and forth until one team reaches the finish square and wins.
If you land on an “open play” space, the opposing team has
the chance to dive in with the right answer before you. If they do this
successfully, your turn ends immediately but you still get to move around the
board if you have already correctly guessed one or more missing links.
Enjoy yourselves !!!
If you get really hooked on this game, an additional
20 sheets of question cards (making a total of 900 new clues) are available for
a very small fee from the premium download section at www.FreeBoardGames.com
