(Run by anglers for anglers)
Located on springs on the headwaters of the Dorset Frome, our stock of our less likely to come into contact with River borne diseases.
By mass selection over 25 years we now produce particularly fast-growing trout, (both brown trout and rainbow trout). For instance some of our one-year-old brown trout will go out at two pounds in April. We have heard from two separate sources that been feed trials our rainbows grow 40 per cent faster than other strains tested.
Not only do our fish look good, grow fast, and fight well, they also eat well - no muddy tastes!
With no price increases for five years and following a recent 10% increase in feed costs, we have reluctantly increased the brown trout prices by up to five percent
Free delivery is included except where excess mileage or uneconomic loads make it necessary to raise an "agreed" charge. Drivers' hours regulations and wages make it imperative that the time to put trout in is relative to the number of trout involved, eg up to one hour for a hundred or so and up to two hours for a 1000 plus. We reserve the right to charge for excess time at £10 per hour. Our driver will always help unload and carry fish but it is essentially the buyer's responsibility to provide labour and to put the fish into the water.
Customers are reminded that they must obtain written section 30 consent from the local Envag fisheries officer. This is a legal requirement and failure to comply will almost certainly in future lead to prosecution by the end back.
Envag consent application forms will require the following information about us:
Location: Map sheet 194 G R 534007
Water source: Springs
Health status: MAFF registered (currently MAFF/EFFO 148a of 3 oct 96 ref to inspection on 1 OCt 96)
We have two MAFF inspections per year. Additionally we had three export orders in 1996, to be repeated in 1997, which necessitates additional 10 MAFF health checks on each occasion. Our policy of not buying in fish or ova plus the fact that we are based on springs makes us considerably less likely to get any notifiable diseases than the majority of fish farms.
To the best of our knowledge of fish are disease free but no warranty is given or implied.
Customers and consenting Envag fishery officers are encouraged to visit our farm in order to verify the quality, production conditions and visible signs a of fitness.
Trout production is a risky business and acceptance of an order is subject to the possibility, however remote, and some act of God to upset the applecart.
All trout over 10 inches of fed pigmented food.
We stress that quality, service, reliability and a fair deal to our customers are the basis of business.
