Always a tough decision this one! There are a variety of cafes, pubs and restaurants locally, all with their own particular character. The following list of local eateries has been compiled mainly with evening meals in mind. The list is not comprehensive and does not follow any particular order but we hope that it is broad enough to cater to most tastes. We very strongly recommend that you reserve a table beforehand, telephone number are provided for this purpose. The prices shown here are approximations and not fixed menu prices. Our own favourite is the last one on the list...

PUBS:
THE PILOT BOAT in LYME REGIS - Offers basic pub grub and may be of particular interest for people who have arrive in town late because it serves meals up to 10pm (the latest available time for food anywhere in the area). 01297-443157
THE VOLUNTEER INN in LYME REGIS on the main street. Small pub with normal pub food and a cosy traditional pub atmosphere. Some choose to eat in the bar as the restaurant area does not inspire everyone. Reasonably priced and not too far away. (01297-442214)
THE HARBOUR INN in LYME REGIS - Down on the water front on the Cobb. This is more up to date than some, especially with regard to the menu! It is right on the beach front and some of the tables are out on the beach area. The menu is varied, ranging from good pasta dishes to more Thai style food or flavours. Normally a lot of fish on the menu. Especially good for a warm Sunday evening in late Autumn or early Spring when the views are not lost amongst the crowds.
THE COBB ARMS in LYME REGIS -
Also down on the Cobb and shown right. Regular pub grub with an emphasis on fish (being so close to where the trawlers land their catch).
THE TUCKERS ARMS at DALWOOD. There is a good atmosphere in this cosy and traditional thatched pub. The meat dishes are often better than the fish dishes (although they give the impression that their fish is better!). Much better than average pub food. Approx. £13.95 per head for 2 courses (excluding drinks). A haven of warmth in winter and a good escape from the thronging crowds in summer. (01404-881342)
THE KINGS ARMS at STOCKLAND - A traditional coaching inn with above average good pub food. Booking advisable. (01404-881361)
THE DREWE ARMS at BROAD HEMBURY. This is the other side of Honiton and about half an hour drive from Lyme Regis but it is well worth the drive if you can face it. Very friendly, good atmosphere, delicious fish and seafood but be warned, if you dont like fish and seafood there is only one other option for each course. It is a popular pub and booking is a must on most nights. £19.50 for 3 courses excluding coffee and drinks (01404-841267)
THE MASONS ARMS at BRANSCOMBE - Excellent food and friendly atmosphere. It has been reviewed by the "Good Pub Guide" and several similar publications so it is usually quite full and is not suitable for anyone in a hurry.
THE FOX INN at CORSCOMBE - Quite a drive (allow 30-40 minutes) but a smashing little village pub with an ambitious menu. Good atmosphere, friendly folks at the bar, well worth a visit if you are going that way. Booking is advisable all year round (01395-891330)
THE SHAVE CROSS INN at MARSHWOOD - We have not actually eaten here but we have had several good reports and would like some more feedback if you go...hint, hint. (01308-868358)
THE KINGS ARMS INN at MONTACUTE - good food and friendly atmosphere. Also a much smarter and pricier restaurant. Advisable to ring and check availability in peak season and weekends. (01935-822513)
THE HARBOUR INN - AXMOUTH. This is a charming little pub with a good atmosphere and fine beers. They have more "off" days than some when it comes to food but when the kitchen is running smoothly the food is very good. Makes a great stop is you are walking the coast path from Lyme Regis to Seaton.

THE RIVERSIDE Café at WEST BAY, NEAR BRIDPORT. (01308-422011).
The most buzzing restaurant weve been to in this area but you need to book and it is probably the most expensive restaurant in the area. Wooden building, white and blue, casual and quite New England in style. The menu is large with delicious specials of the day. The focus is very much on fish and shellfish - there is almost nothing else except one or two vegetarian dishes for each course. The seafood platters and seafood salad sound better than they taste. There is also a seafood bar which operates on a first come first served basis. Some of their mid priced items are much better than their top-of-the-menu offerings - we had their top-of-the-range seafood platter once and it was abysmal.
Note that it is only open from May to end of September or October
BRIDGE HOUSE at BEAMINSTER. Has quite a good write up in the Good Food Guide but we need to have some personal comments on this one! It is one of the more pricey eating venues.(01308-862200)
THE MAD HATTER at LYME REGIS. Is candlelight and has an intimate atmosphere but you are quite tightly packed in! Traditional food e.g. Lemon sole, steaks, prawn cocktail and garlic mushrooms. Is fairly priced. (01297-443247)
**THE VICTORIA in UPLYME - Our own favourite this one, The food is good and fairly reasonably priced (£2.50-£4.50 for a starter and £8.50-£14 for a main course) It has a light, bright and airy feel - not somewhere to go if you are after a traditional pub feel. They have a restaurant at the back which is non-smoking and smarter. Alternatively you can eat from the restaurant menu in the bar area. There is also a cheaper and smaller bar menu. Backgammon and Jenga games are available from behind the bar. Everyone working there is very friendly and there is always one of the family working . It is fresher and zippier than most other places in the area!! (01297-444801).
